New Project: Home Grown in Central Vermont

A portrait of people and what they grow

A great many of us around here are passionate and involved when it comes to food and flowers. What I would like to do is create a series of portraits of the people whose passion involves the hard work of cultivating vegetables, fruits, herbs, and flowers and then pair them with with resulting garden grown product (so two final images). I am looking for small farmers and weekend gardeners to be the face of this project.

I will be looking for about 25 volunteers and hope to take the pictures over the course of the summer and fall (May-October). I would like to do a short interview with each subject and take a portrait of them, a picture of what they grew, as well as supporting images (such as work being done, tools, fields, etc.).

Here is what I will be asking/offering from the participants:

  • You must have grown the food/flower yourself
  • The pictures can take place anywhere in the process from growing to just harvested - I would just like the food/flower to be recognizable
  • You will sign a model release
  • You will allow the pictures to be used on social media and my website
  • You will allow the pictures and interview to be used in a book (should I do that)
  • You will allow the pictures and any audio to be used in a multi-media project (should I do that)
  • Open to small groups if the food/flower was grown as a collective effort
  • I’ll need 2-3 hours of your time to fit in the portrait, food/flower shot, and interview
  • Open to all ages, but people under 18 need their parent/guardian’s permission
  • I will provide a digital copy of the images to the participants as a thank you
  • Open to past participants in my projects

I would like to have this project up and running soon and have most volunteers committed by June. Please contact me soon if you think you’d like to participate and please share with friends and family that also may be interested.
